IV.ESG & Carbon Credit Registries

Carbon Credit Registry CRM — Methodology-Gated Approvals, Audit-Ready by Default

A nonprofit operating one of the world's largest voluntary carbon standards was running methodology-gated project approvals across spreadsheets, shared inboxes, and a project-management tool. Reviewers couldn't see a project's full history. Approvals stalled between tools. The audit trail had to be reconstructed after the fact.

The outcome

Replaced a multi-tool approval process with a single system of record — from intake through credited volume.

Single paneProject lifecycle

Intake, review, approval, and audit history on one record — no re-keying across spreadsheets and PM tools.

Auto-computedOffset volumes

Estimated credited volumes calculated from methodology formulas at approval gates, not retyped into reports afterwards.

Audit-readyEvery decision

Every status change, reviewer comment, and approval gate written to the project record — one trail, reviewable years later.

01 — The problem

Where the system was breaking.

  1. 01

Project intake, methodology review, and verification tracking lived in disconnected tools — no single record per project

  2. 02

Each methodology family (forestry, cookstoves, renewables) needed its own approval path, but the existing tooling treated every project the same

  3. 03

Reviewer routing was manual — project leads handed off by email, and handoffs slipped between inboxes

  4. 04

Estimated offset volumes were computed per-project in spreadsheets, then retyped into reports — a persistent source of errors

02 — What we built

The architecture

We built SuiteCRM into the registry's project-approval spine — intake, methodology routing, reviewer handoff, and per-methodology dashboards all in one system. A bi-directional SuiteCRM ↔ ClickUp bridge kept project managers in their existing PM tool without splitting the source of truth. Methodologies became first-class modules, each with their own fields, validation rules, approval workflow, and offset-volume formulas. Every status change, reviewer comment, and approval decision wrote back to the project record — one audit trail, not four.

Includes
  • Methodology-as-a-module: forestry, cookstoves, renewables, agriculture and waste modeled as distinct SuiteCRM modules with their own fields, validations, and review paths
  • Bi-directional SuiteCRM ↔ ClickUp sync — PMs stayed in ClickUp, the CRM remained the system of record
  • Reviewer routing automated on methodology + project attributes, with load balancing across reviewer capacity
  • Per-methodology dashboards: pipeline stage, bottlenecks, estimated credited volume at each approval gate
  • Auto-computed offset volume estimates derived from methodology formulas — no retyping from spreadsheets into reports
  • Full audit trail on every project record: who reviewed, when, what changed, and why
